Andrew James (Team captain)

Picture
Hi I am Andrew James I started Rotherham Flyball Teams in September 2007 with my wife Samantha after running with Sheffield Speeders Flyball Team for 3 years, I have just started work again after being made redundant in November 2009. Now working for a distribution company based at Bridgewater who have just opened a new depot up in Barnsley. I currently have nine dogs in my pack all active flyball dogs and some are as mad as hatters. Most if not all of my spare time goes into flyball organizing tournaments and training and competing with them

As the surname suggests I am married to Andrew and have been for 5yrs. I am a manager for a retail outlet Ethel Austin at the Rotherham branch where I have worked for the last 6 years. We both wanted  a hobby or past time that we could both do together and Flyball looked like the one. We were both very interested from the first time we saw the demonstration which Doncaster where putting on, when we went to have a look at Paddy, who was looking for a new home. We were invited by Sheffield Speeders to come along to Newark indoor competition to meet the team and have a look at what Flyball was all about. I run most of our dogs Ollie on the Rockets team and Max on the Runners team Spike on the Riders team & Eabha who is a starter dogat the moment but will soon be out into open competition.

Hi, I'm Janet and married to Barry. I'm a retired  local authority clerical officer, we got involved with flyball due to Sam and Andy inviting us to tournaments. Our dogs; MacCauley a wsd, and cleo a blue merle were purchased at the tournament held at anglesy. We have always had dogs as pets from our childhood. I run Cleo who is a WSD

Val Ransom

Hi my name is Val, I'm married to Graham(who is not a flyball fanatic)  I have a son and a daughter and three grand-daughters plus two border collies and a cat who thinks it's a border collie.   I'm now retired after 22yrs  with the NHS as a clerical officer, first in the maternity department and then in the chest clinic, I now do some volutary work as a one to one reader at my local primary school., which I enjoy very much and the wow factor is I also get invited on to on the school outings.  I first got into Flyball about eight years ago when my grand-daughter  Amy wanted to try some sort of dog sport with my older dog Hope and was introduced to flyball by Linda Powell of the Sheffield Speeders, we went to Sharnford a show put on by the Nuneatons to see what it was all about, from then on we were hooked and later Amy got her own dog Nell.  At first I was just the chauffeur, cook, ball collector, dog catcher etc., but two years ago Amy went off to university and I began running the dogs

Married to Ian I started flyball on my own with Oscar and Pippa our 2 English Springer Spaniels.  Ian gradually became invloved soon after and its safe to say he is more of a flyball fanatic than me.  Sadly we lost Oscar the dog that started all this in February 2011 but our lives are by no means quiet we have 5 dogs.  Pippa, English Springer Spaniel, Sky, English Cocker Spaniel and  Storm, Quiz, Puzzle who are all Border Collies.
I have been the BFA Membership Seretary and Vice Chairman both jobs I have recently retired from I am now working to complete my Head Judges log book.

Before Flyball I had 2 dogs, drove a convertable car, went on 4 star holidays and spent too much time in the office.  Now I have 5 dogs, drive a van and go on caravan holidays with all my Flyball mates and spend as little time as possible at work!

Well its fair to say that once upon a time i had no interest in flyball, moe would go off and leave me at home until one day my life was changed by a lab called buster ( not ours ) buster had issues like doing a run then running around for hours nobody able to catch him. For some reason buster choose me and would come straight back to me after each run. That was it hooked. Things just went from bad to worst am a total flyball nut, i run two out of four competing dogs our latest being mad puzzle a black and white collie she is a hand full specially in the flyball run but is proving that she is nothing like her mum in that respect. ( sorry helen )

Richard Liversidge

Hi, i'm Richard Chef by trade, dog lover by nature. I am married to Becky who also runs with Rotherham between us we have three dogs ( at the Moment)

I only compete with the eldest of our 3 dogs Jess border collie who is 8 years old, the rest of my energies are spent developing other dogs not necessary my own , we all work together to achieve the same goal at Rotherham, and we love it life just seems dull without flyball now, so if you want to keep your dog fit, have fun with your dog, have fun with others whilst being competitive then this is the sport for you and your dog.

Hi I'm Becky married to Richard, we have 3 dogs Jess (8) Black and white border collie Revel ( 4) Red and white border collie and Holly (3) blue and white border collie.

I started flyball over 6 years ago with another team and just recently moved to Rotherham, I compete with Revel and Holly, I just to go out with my friends around town at a weekend before flyball but now I camp most weekends through the summer months, but I wouldn't change it for anything, I love the social side of flyball aswell as being competitive with my dogs.

Rachael Minnikin

Picture
Hi I'm Rachael and are married to Garry, when we first started flyball training we had 2 dogs, Tessa and CoCo however CoCo would not run for me and Tessa would not run for Garry, Tessa gained her flyball dog award which we thought that she would never manage to achieve, CoCo was struck down with Meningitis only a few weeks after getting Stella.I do not run a dog at present but still enjoy being part of the team and assisting where ever possible. I am a keen motor racing fan and used to race myself becoming national champion in my class in 2001 and are hoping that Stella and Tia in time can also be successful at flyball.

Hi I'm Garry and am married to Rachael, between us we have 3 dogs, Tessa a collie cross and we have 2 Parsons Jack Russell " Terrorists", that should read terriers but probably right the first time.We got in to flyball by watching at a local game fair, we ran for a while with a local club and had some great fun however we soon became addicted as do most people once they have run in competition. We have recently joined Rotherham Rockets as the bug has become too much and now want to race every weekend and the social side is very good as well.At present I only run Stella who ran in division and gained her first flyball points as soon as she was old enough which was exactly 18 months to the day, Stella continues to improve and hopefully one day will be a very reliable height dog. We have just acquired Tia another Parsons Jack Russel pup who in time will hopefully make the grade with the persistence of the guys at Rotherham

Danny lydiate

Hi my name is Danny or Daniel if I’m in trouble. I am married to Sarah and
Alfie is our only dog at present. We are completely new to flyball, but not new
to dog ownership. We have seen flyball many times before and unfortunately never had the time to look into this with our beloved Benson.
We have waited for a  year before getting another dog and we got Alfie from dog’s trust in Leeds and  instantly knew we would have to channel his energy via flyball. We have now  joined Rotherham Rockets and have been made to feel very welcome and part of  this flyball family.  We haven’t got a caravan yet, but you can find us in  either the north or south wing of our 10 man tent for 2 + Alfie. Bring on  the training for all 3 of us and then the madness of competition!

Sarah Lydiate

Picture
Hi my name is Sarah, married to Danny. Alfie is our little monster. Danny
came to the flyball comp in Drax to see whether joining a flyball team would be
right for all 3 of us, but after coming down the first time we were hooked
immediately (even went home talking about vans and caravans).
Approximately  2 weeks after our first training session we traded in our nice new white small  car for a much bigger 7 seat people carrier.  Having spent the last 10 years  in the car scene making sure every inch of our cars were pristine and ready to put on show, it’s now nice doing something where getting mucky is all part of  the fun of flyball. This is a whole new learning curve, but we are looking  forward to the challenges ahead.

Cheryl Quinn

Picture
Hi I'm Cheryl Quinn married to Garry Quinn.  We have only been competing in Flyball for the last 12 months and currently only have one dog which is a gorgeous tri coloured border collie called Milly.  She is often mistaken for an Alsatian due to her unusual colouring.  We moved to Rotherham Rockets in April 2012 and Milly has completely settled in and has become more and more confident with each competition as have I.  We are completely addicted to the socialising and competitiveness involved in this sport and highly recommend it for both dogs and owners.  We are looking to add to our family later this year with another border collie.

Gary Quinn

Picture
Hi I’m Garry Quinn and am married to Cheryl Quinn.  Despite the fact that Cheryl and Milly have been involved in flyball for the last twelve months I have never really been that interested.   I could never be anywhere near the flyball ring when Milly was competing as I was too distracting and rather than run to fetch the ball she would run to greet me even if I was the other end of the field and hiding behind a tree!!  Over the last couple of tournaments though we have finally conquered it and Milly is now so ball obsessed that she just ignores me.  We still have a few hiccups but that is  only to be expected.  I am the caravan service and repair man for the team but when we get the new addition to the family I hope to be the handler for Milly while Cheryl puts her efforts into the puppy.

I am 14 years old and love doing both flyball and agility. I own a Staffie x dog which I adore. She is my life and I don’t know where I would be without her. Although she doesn’t live with me, (she lives with my nana) I can still take her training. She has got me so many places I would’ve never dreamt of even being. I have been to Crufts and that was my first aim when I started agility. Being in Rotherham is a laugh and the racing is great fun with them.

I am 11 years old and have enjoyed flybal ever since I started which is around 5 years ago.  When I first started flyball I ran a dog called George who belonged to Peter and Delia from PODS. I have run a lot of dogs over the 5 years and gained over 50 rosettes that is quite a lot!  I currently run my mums dog called Oggy he is 9 and is due to retire soon :-(  We have just recently got a puppy called Sunni and I will be doing his training so he will be my next flyball and agility dog.  Many people describe me is funny, beautiful and in some cases annoying but I am just me.   I have been with Rotherham for over a year and I like being in this team.

I got into flyball after battling cancer in 2009 it was on my bucket list lol.  I got Trevor after my first chemo which kept me busy with no time to mope and by time chemo ending my only wish was to have the energy back to walk him to local field again. Never did i think 2 yrs later I would be having so much fun racing him in a flyball team and have met loads of great people.

Hi I’m Clare, engaged to James Binns. I work for an assistance dog charity.  I have been involved in Flyball since 2006 but did take a couple years out when my first team disbanded, but missed the sport and have been competing ever since.  I started Flyball with Willow with my 11 year old cross breed who has retired from Flyball this year.  I have recently moved to Rotherham Rockets and will be competing with my other two dogs Bracken and Indi and am looking forward to getting them started.

Hi I’m James, engaged to Clare Wear.  I work at Bishop Burton College. I initially wasn’t involved in Flyball until I met Clare, but now I have the Flyball bug, even though I don’t run any of our dogs, I like to get involved in other ways and enjoy it as much.  I also like the social side that Flyball brings with the weekends away in the caravan.
