This is Eabha, Andy and Sam had always intended for her to do Flyball, unfortunately she was not in the least bit interested in balls or toys of any description, she came to stay with me for two weeks in an attempt to clicker train her to retrieve. She didn't like the noise of the clicker so i used the word "yes" instead! I started by simply asking her to touch the ball with her nose and we progressed from there, by the end of the two weeks she was retrieving quite confidently. She then went home to Andy and Sam and her training has come on leaps and bounds! Not only is she enjoying the new game, but her whole personality has changed, she is now much more outgoing and confident!
Scroll through the page to see how she has progressed.
The very beginning; touch the ball with your nose!
After a full week of having her touch the ball, follow it around and chase it, we then progressed to asking her to pick it up!
This was Eabha's first retrieve outdoors, as she was quite a nervous dog, any distractions completely put her off!
Just a few weeks ago she wouldn't even look at a ball, let alone retrieve one! Amazing what positive reinforcement can do!
Eabha, as you can see is getting more confident by the day, it really wont be very long until she is running in her first starter competition!
Eabha has finally made her first starter competition debut! she is doing exceptionally well and really starting to enjoy it!
